Located in Bear, Delaware, the Bear Library opened in late December of 1997 and immediately became the busiest library in the state of Delaware. After undergoing a multimillion-dollar, state-of-the-art renovation, it re-opened its doors in January of 2013 . It is part of the New Castle County Library System.
Functioning not only as a library, the Bear Library is the unofficial town center for the Bear community. The 25,000 square foot facility provides more than 135,000 items for loan including audio, video, magazines, e-books, databases, and print books. Additionally, it offers library programs for all ages and interests, including ESL and GED programs, public access computers, study rooms, quite spaces, and meeting spaces for nonprofit community groups and organizations.*
